Essential Oils for Camping

I went camping last weekend. This was the view that I had from the bed in our camper trailer. I could literally open my eyes in the morning and look straight out onto the ocean-pure bliss!

It was so beautiful to wake up and hear the waves crashing and head straight down to the water for a dip before it warmed up.  I love camping. It is one time that I feel I can truly unwind and relax from everything, especially this time as my mobile phone signal was very poor; sometimes we are forced to take a technology break-which I only see as a good thing!

Whenever I go travelling, the one thing I always pack is my dōTERRA essential oils.

It doesn’t matter if I am away for one night. My essential oil kit is my natural solutions kit that I turn to like a medicine cabinet if any of the family (human or pets) need assistance. This is what was in my kit when I went camping. Not all of it was needed but it’s reassuring to have natural solutions at hand, and you also never know who else you may be able to help in the process.

  1. Arborvitae
  2. Aromatouch
  3. Balance
  4. Correct-X
  5. Digestzen (Digestion Blend)
  6. Frankincense
  7. Lavender
  8. Lavender Peace
  9. Lemon
  10. On-Guard (Protective Blend)
  11. Peppermint
  12. Terra-Armour (Repellant Blend)
  13. Wild Orange

So what was the reason that I chose these thirteen oils/blends? Let’s talk about each one them in more detail.

1. Arbovitae

Arborvitae has a warm, woody and earthy aroma. Arborvitae protects against environmental and seasonal threats. It is a powerful cleaning and purifying agent and naturally repels insects. Perfect if you’re camping!

 2. Aromatouch

Aromatouch has comforting and relaxing effects. As you are sleeping in a new environment when you camp, you may wake up with a stiff or sore neck. Aromatouch is perfect massaged into the neck to lessen tension. Whenever I use this blend I always feel like I am in a spa!

3. Balance

Balance is very grounding and relaxing and eases anxious feelings. I took this to use in case there was a thunderstorm (which was predicted) and my dogs needed something to calm them down.  Would have been handy to use on the neighbouring children also when they had a tantrum!!

 4. Correct-X

A great lotion to have on hand in the outdoors in case of any cuts or grazes. Helps soothe and hydrate. It is ideal for sensitive skin as it is gentle and non-irritating.

5. Digestzen (Digestion Blend)

An amazing oil that I always have on hand (for myself and others) as it helps soothe stomach discomfort, reduce bloating, gas and occasional indigestion. Use with fractionated coconut oil for a soothing abdominal massage.

6. Frankincense

Oh Frankincense! This oil is so powerful and soothing. I add it to my moisturiser every day. It is known to reduce the appearance of blemishes and to rejuvenate the skin. It induces feelings of peace, satisfaction and overall wellness.

 7. Lavender

Lavender is widely known for its calming and relaxing properties. It is wonderful to soothe skin irritations and was the main reason I took it as I have recently reacted to a natural bi-carb based deodorant. Lavender was perfect to soothe this irritation.

I also have a lavender touch roller bottle (Lavender already diluted in fractionated coconut oil in an easy application roller bottle) that I now keep in the car all the time because my two dogs get bitten by ants sometimes when we are out walking!

8. Lavender Peace

Known for its relaxing and calming properties, I love to combine this with balance and massage onto my dogs when there is a storm. We did not need to use this in the end as the thunder was only rumbling away in the background but it is the perfect combination to relax children and pets alike!

9. Lemon

I took this to add to my pancake mix and it was great! It also cleanses and purifies the air and surfaces: perfect when camping! It can also remove sticky residue off surfaces and is wonderful to wash your hands with if you’ve been dealing with a greasy car: this oil should be in every man’s shed!

10. On Guard (Protective Blend)

On Guard is a wonderful immune support and the first thing I turn to when I feel under the weather so it is always good to take this on trips away. Plus…..we were pretty much bush camping. No showers and long-drop toilets. So I made up a hand wash with On Guard, water, alcohol and aloe vera gel. It also makes a great surface cleaner (when camping or in the home).

11. Peppermint

The perfect morning pick me up if you have not had a refreshing night’s sleep. For me, I took this because it is perfect to keep you cool. Add a few drops to a spray bottle and store in the fridge. When you start to feel really hot, spray over your feet and/or face. It is also great to freshen your mouth and add to toothpaste (or make your own with it). It can also help reduce bloating, gas and occasional indigestion (contained in the Digestion Blend).

12. Terra-Armour (Repellant Blend)

Are you still using mosquito protection sprays with DEET? STOP!!! They are so harmful to you and those around you. Terra-armour is safe for the whole family to use. It is already diluted in fractionated coconut oil and can be sprayed directly onto the skin or around the tent doors and windows to act as an environmental protection barrier.

13. Wild Orange

I used wild orange a few times during the trip. I made a salad dressing with olive oil, mustard and a few drops of wild orange. I also added it to Coyo Coconut yogurt which I had on top of my lemon pancakes for breakfast. So yummy! There is no reason not to eat well when you are camping.

So here is a summary of the many uses of the essential oils that I took with me on my trip. I chose a select few that I knew would be of most benefit to me and my family.

I also took my dōTERRA supplements:

1. The vEO mega: Vegan Essential Fatty Acids

2. The Microplex VMz: 22 essential vitamins and minerals as well as a whole food blend

3. PB Assist: Probiotic Defense Formula, a prebiotic and probiotic blend to help support a healthy digestive system. And the great thing about this probiotic  is that it does not need to be refrigerated like most other brands.

So next time you go camping or into nature, don’t forget to take your natural health kit with you.
